Beaufort SC Weather

Beaufort, South Carolina, is blessed with wonderfully mild temperatures throughout most of the year. It is the perfect adventure location for visitors wanting to explore favourite outdoor activities. Locals, too, love to spend as much time outdoors as indoors, and the temperate climate is perfect for the environmentally friendly nature lovers!

Beaufort SC is well-known as one of those rare year-round destinations to visit, with spring and fall being the favorite, usually mild, seasons. Summer can become quite humid, often with afternoon thundershowers to cool the air down. Winter weather is a little unpredictable, and temperatures fluctuate more than usual. If you are planning a visit, remember that the best of Beaufort’s events take place in April and October, when Beaufort SC weather is comfortable and the mood carefree.

Inside Information

Beaufort SC WeatherIn most locations, fall is a particularly lovely time of year when foliage begins to burn with oranges and red, and the slightly crisper air adds a new vigor to evening walks. Even more so in and around Beaufort, when the marsh grass takes on a golden hue, everyone knows it will soon be oyster and clam time! This delicious local delicacy is harvested in the cooler months; and outdoor clam roasts become a time of treasured memories. There is good news too for the seasoned hunter, as the mild Beaufort SC weather contributes to the longest deer hunting season in the nation, beginning in August and ending in December.

Outside Action

As the seasons turn towards spring and summer, swimming is enjoyed for at least six months of the year - in a variety of pristine water sources from the Atlantic Ocean to private and communal sparkling swimming pools. Boating, sailing and kayaking is a year-round activity, which is good news for fishermen. Although the catch has the usual seasonal variation – from Cobia and Spanish Mackerel to Sea Trout – the fishermen themselves are annual installations on land or from a seaward vessel.

Although the summers can go into the 90’s, a constant cooling on-shore breeze makes those lazy hammock afternoons perfect for whiling away a few hours in the shade of an old oak tree. When you’re feeling energetic, local golf facilities is a definite draw card for buyers of Beaufort real estate, with more than a dozen courses in Beaufort SC and a perfectly balanced climate to allow maximum time on that green! The abundance of trails for walking or biking, tennis courts, public ball fields and fitness centres let you know that this is one city which makes maximum use of its fantastically temperate climate.

Balanced Perspective

Although mostly mild weather prevails during every season, it is worth remembering that temperatures on the barrier islands can typically get slightly warmer in the winter and slightly cooler in the summer compared to Beaufort SC weather.  Humidity tends to be a fairly persistent phenomenon, and remember that if you are planning an outdoor adventure holiday to the Sea Islands, that hurricane season runs from June to November.

To put the local temperatures into numerical perspective, the average annual temperature for Beaufort SC weather is 65ºF, with peaks of high 80’s and low 90’s in June through September and 60’s high 50’s in December and January.  Annual precipitation is 49.4 inches. As is true of the entire eastern seaboard, and indeed, most coastal areas on the planet, Beaufort homeowners keep an eye on the hurricane maps between June and October. You can rest assured that if a storm were to threaten the any South Carolina coastal real estate, the emergency teams know exactly what to do to keep homes and residents safe.

Looking at the climate from an all-season perspective, Beaufort SC weather and geography helps to make Beaufort County one of the most desirable places to live. Why not take a closer look? Russ Fielden is eager to share his love of all things ocean with you, and his wife Deb Fielden, the local expert on Beaufort’s surrounds, can fill you in on all the outdoor community events. Make that call to enjoy the more than 200 days of sunshine each and every year! Close proximity to the Atlantic Gulf Stream balances the heat with a deliciously fresh tropical air flow, making sure that lucky locals and returning visitors can indulge in their much-loved way of life: to live as much in and on the water as they do next to the water, thanks to calm, sunny and a little breezy Beaufort SC weather.

Beaufort SC Waterfront & Oceanfront With Russ Fielden

Beaufort is blessed with more pristine waterfront than any other area along the South East coast. The defining terms for our waterfront as noted in the property listings are as follows;

  • Deep Water - At least 3 feet at a normal low tide at the dock.
  • Deep Water Limited Access - Same as deep water but there may be less depth in the creek or river to deeper water.
  • Tidal Creek - Less than 3 feet at low tide at the dock and can vary quite a bit (to no water at the dock at low tide).
  • Marsh Water View - No direct access to the water but with views of the marshes and creeks.
  • Oceanfront - Directly on the ocean or the mouth of the sound where it meets the ocean.
  • Ocean View - Views of the ocean can vary from almost oceanfront to limited views.
